5 Key Components to Building your Dream Wedding

SOOOO many different elements go into planning your wedding, as I’m sure you already know! They all come together to create one very unique experience just for you. While every aspect is important, I truly believe there are a few key elements that really are must haves that tie it all together!

1. Photography

I’ll start with the #shamelessplug. Haha. But really, if it’s not in your top 3, it should be! Having someone who knows what they’re doing in any lighting scenario, knows how to handle the day (crazy weather, posing, timeline coordination..etc.), and someone that truly you vibe with is SO important. Photos are what make or break your memories. Definitely not the area you want to cut short on!

Be aware, many people who pick up a camera instantly call themselves a photographer. I get it, we all start somewhere, but it shouldn’t be your wedding! A lot of times the average person can land a good shot with today’s technology. But I assure you its more complex than it may seem. When you’re hiring someone please be sure to ask for: A) Full galleries, B) If they have insurance, C) Their backup plans for your photos at minimum. (This will be a blog post in itself with more details!)

2. Food

I know this might seem like an obvious one but this element is a huge part of your guests enjoyment through the night. Even if it’s just Hors d’oeurves, make sure their banging! I can honestly tell you some of the most memorable meals were from cocktail hour! Haha. Try several different options with your favorite catering places to land that killer meal leaving your guests completely satisfied.

3. Entertainment

DON’T SKIMP ON THE DJ GUYS. Or if you choose a live band, dancers, you name it…. These guys create the life of the party! Ask for reviews, watch their IG stories and see how they handle a crowd. Also make sure they have backup gear in the instance something breaks. I’ve had a couple dance to a boombox because their DJ was unprepared when their gear broke RIGHT before the introductions. Nobody wants that!

4. Venue

I may get backlash on this (idk) but I really believe the venue sets THE TONE for the day. Whether its industrial, backyard vibes, beach, mountainside, garden and more… A good venue will do even more than just help create the “Theme”, it will also take good care of you. This is another area where reviews and the like come in handy. Choosing a venue that does most of the legwork (unless you hire out) is a huge bonus! Also, if you’re getting ready there… a great well lit getting ready space will help not only your photographer (even if it isn’t me) but also your makeup artist!

5. Something Unique to You!

You guys into all kinds of sweets? Can’t go wrong with a candy bar. Huge fans of The Office? Play re-runs/make a game in the waiting area of the reception for fun for your guests! Want a fun activity for your fam/friends? A selfie booth is a great option! Whatever it is, make it you!

And last but not least as a bonus…. All your favorite people! Can’t do a wedding with out them right? Remember that it’s YOUR day. You and your partner are the ones we’re celebrating, and having those who mean the most to YOU is what’s important. –

Somewhere along the way I realized couples didn't just need beautiful photographs.

They needed someone who could steady nerves.
Read a room.
Build a timeline that actually worked.
Calm anxious family members.
Know when to step in.
Know when to quietly disappear.

Photography became the tool.

Serving people became the calling.
